At first, the methane in ether was found by Hans von Pechmann in the late of 18^th century, a German chemist, after that two German chemists made polymethylene very close to polyethylene. In 1930s, American chemist created high-density residue, and solid form of polyethylene was created by a British chemist in 1935.

During the World War II, British use PE to insulate radar cables, which was HDPE’s first commercial application. In 1953, Ziegler created HDPE under the use of catalysts and low pressure, In 1955, HDPE was used to make pipes, for that, Ziegler was awarded the 1963 Nobel Prize for Chemistry.

Today, HDPE has been used in many fields, including bottles, HDPE geomembrane, HDPE drainage board etc.
